[It is the last Portuguese lugger cod-fisher still sailing. It has known the adventure of cod fishing in the seas of the Newland during thirty six years.
The "Creoula" now teaches the magic of the sea life to 16 year young ship’s boys. The old cod-fisher now sails with groups of high school students who live a sailor’s life during two week holidays.
In order to achieve their mission they wake up at the sound of the boat swain’s morning whistle, they tire their arms hauling the sails, they tolerate the evening cold making watches, they wash the deck and learn how to move the helm. This is an initiative of the Ministry of the Education which intends to evoke the Portuguese discoveries allowing a contact with the ocean for young people living far away.
A team of the programme "Sea Watch" - joined one of these trips. Those were two weeks of sea work with stops in Cádiz, Funchal and Porto Santo next to 45 seamen between 16 and 18 years old.
In the photo album one can see registered the deck cooling bath with the Creoula’s mascot female dog "Espuma" (Foam). There were also the memories of the long hours polishing the goldens and clewing the sails.

Agora, o "Creoula" ensina a magia da vida do mar a jovens de 16 anos. O velho barco navega agora com grupos de alunos que vivem a vida de um marinheiro durante duas semanas das suas férias escolares. Para alcançar a sua missão, acordam de manhã com o som do apito do barco, cansam os braços arrastando as velas, suportam o frio da noite a fazer vigias, lavam o convés e aprendem a mover o leme. Esta é uma iniciativa do Ministério da Educação que pretende evocar os Descobrimentos portugueses, permitindo um contato com o oceano a jovens que vivem longe.
Uma equipe do programa "Bombordo" juntou-se a uma destas viagens. Foram duas semanas de trabalho de mar com escalas em Cádiz, Funchal e Porto Santo, ao lado de 45 marinheiros entre os 16 e os 18 anos de idade. Foi fita a cobertura de um baptismo de mar a bordo de um barco muito especial.
