"The King in Exile" is a film based upon a ballet created by dancer/choreographer Francisco Camacho that was presented during the EUROPALIA event in Belgium dedicated to Portugal in 1992.The ballet consists of a Solo, whereas Theatre (voice and text) has such important a place as Dance.Inspired by the exile of the last Portuguese King D. Manuel II, "The King in Exile" deals with the exile within one's self. It is a self portrait of national myth-mania, sometimes ironic often controversial, where solitude is permanent.The character, resulting from the juxtaposition of the author and D. Manuel II, blends gestures of the symbolic world of masculine everyday life within the action.This film version is not just a reproduction of the performance. It is a reinterpretation of the ballet itself.
